BusinessWire
June 1, 2006

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2006--L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that it will establish the Homeland Security Group, effective July 24, 2006, to provide oversight, coordination and synergy among the company's Homeland Security-related businesses. The L-3 Homeland Security Group will consist of the company's Security and Detection Systems, SafeView, and CyTerra subsidiaries and other Homeland Security operations.

The company also announced that Craig P. Coy will join L-3 Communications as president and chief operating officer of the L-3 Homeland Security Group, reporting to Frank C. Lanza, chairman and chief executive officer of L-3 Communications. In this role, Mr. Coy will oversee L-3's Homeland Security operations and pursuits and coordinate capabilities across L-3's product lines and divisions to address the growing Homeland Security market. As an addressable market, Homeland Security encompasses a number of product segments including intrusion detection, port, border and airport security, secure communications, feasibility studies and requirements training.

Mr. Coy most recently served as the chief executive officer of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), where he oversaw Logan International Airport, the Port of Boston, the Tobin Bridge and Hanscom Field in Bedford. At Massport, Mr. Coy led the implementation of Logan's nationally-recognized 100% bag screening program, the nation's first permanent system approved for a major U.S. international airport. Prior to that, he served as chief executive officer and president of HR Logic, Inc., before which, he spent eight years providing logistical support, maintenance and training services to the aerospace industry as vice president and general manager for Lear Siegler Services, Inc.

Mr. Coy served in the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for more than 20 years in various capacities, including chief operating officer for activities in Europe and director of the Commandant's Strategic Planning Office. In 1983, he became the first USCG officer ever to be selected as a White House Fellow and worked with President Ronald Reagan's domestic policy advisor, before going on to serve as deputy director for Counter Terrorism at the National Security Council.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome Craig to L-3," said Mr. Lanza. "With over 29 years of experience in the public and private sector in key management roles, as well as extensive experience developing and overseeing transportation security systems, and implementing national security strategy at the White House, Craig brings with him the skills needed to maximize our existing offerings and address the growing Homeland Security opportunity."

Mr. Lanza continued, "Following the recent additions of CyTerra and SafeView, L-3 continues to focus on strengthening its ability to provide a full-spectrum of leading Homeland Security solutions. The L-3 Homeland Security Group will draw on the synergies among L-3's products and businesses to provide state-of-the art integrated security offerings that meet the needs of both domestic and international clients. Homeland Security is a critical and growing market and we are beginning to see signs of greater government interest in cargo, port, and mass transportation security, as well as in intrusion detection and border security both in the U.S. and abroad. We look forward to Craig's contributions to this important business area."

Mr. Coy graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a BS in 1972, and he received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1983. He has been awarded various military and private sector honors and serves on the Boards of Directors for the White House Fellows Foundation, the New England Council and the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay.
